Chihuahua adoption
Chihuahua adoption is a fine way to help the current population of our fur friends find appropriate homes and avoid being euthanized. There has been a significant
increase in the number of dog and cat adoptions in recent years. Prospective pet owners often realize that there are already enough animals on the earth right now. If you wish
a pure bred animal, you will pay thousands of dollars. Unless you are going into the breeding business, a spayed or neutered foundling or rescued animal is the way to go to
get your pet.
Chihuahua adoption often takes place from a rescue center or a kennel. A government kennel may be less likely to care about matching dogs to an appropriate home and master than a privately run rescue organization. And no matter where you go, adoptions are not free!
The fees associated with Chihuahua adoption go to cover the cost of getting your new pet in perfect medical shape and average $150-$350. Fees cover expenses incurred for dental and physical exams, spaying or neutering, dewormings, vaccinations and blood tests. Regardless of where you go to adopt your pet, be sure you get something in writing indicating a clean bill of health and that the appropriate tests and vaccinations have already been provided.
Chihuahua adoption goes beyond just throwing money down and walking out with a dog, especially at rescue centers that are privately run. At these private rescue centers, you are likely to get interviewed and be offered a dog that they feel suits both you and the animal. A private Chihuahua adoption is often arranged by volunteers who give their time for the love of Chihuahuas. Placement may take a bit longer, but the animals are often less anxious and stressed than at a county kennel.
Frequently, the prospective dog has been placed in a foster home. Chihuahua adoption follows a flexible plan along these lines:
1) You contact the Chihuahua adoption center and fill out an application.
2) A time will be set for you to visit the pet either at its foster home or at the adoption center.
3) If you are pleased with the proffered Chihuahua, the next step is a visit to your home to see how the dog interacts with everyone there.
4) If all goes well, the Chihuahua adoption proceeds to completion with the payment of the adoption "donation".
You can check your local telephone directory for pet rescue centers and humane societies for Chihuahua adoption candidates. Another source of quality information is a local veterinarian, who can put you in touch with the appropriate organization. And of course, just typing in the keywords 'Chihuahua adoption' along with your state or province in your favorite internet search engine will give you a starting point in your search.
