Yankee Chihuahua Rescue and Adoption (New England) www.yankee_chihuahuas.org
We are dedicated to rescue, adoption and the medical care of
stray and homeless Chihuahuas and small dogs in need, and to help control the
growing overpopulation through spaying and neutering all dogs in our care. Our
purpose is to extend public education and awareness regarding abuse and
neglect.
You can also check your local yellow pages for local Chihuahua rescue groups and your state's Humane Society--and be sure to ask your veterinarian for help.
Most Chihuahua rescue groups will take in a foundling, abused or owner-relinquished pet. They usually work with a local vet to update vaccinations, complete deworming procedures, provide dental and physical exams, and spay or neuter the animals as necessary.
Most Chihuahua rescue groups are staffed by volunteers who love Chis. These animals are such devoted dogs that many people consider them four-legged children! These volunteers will often come get a pet that is no longer wanted by its owner and bear the travel expenses themselves. They operate on a shoestring budget or no budget at all. The only way they can recoup some of their expenses is to add the cost of providing for each specific dog to the adoption fee total. Any additional charitable contribution is never refused.
The Number 1 goal of Chihuahua rescue groups is to find a suitable home for these rescuees, so that they can finally "go home for life."
